- Source: NSW Gambling Survey 2019. People with gambling problems can experience harm as a result of gambling. Gambling harm can relate to financial, health, relationships, education and employment, social and psychological well-being. Gambling harm doesn’t just affect the person who gambles, it can also affect those around them.
- The Act requires each casino licence in NSW to make contributions to the Fund, with contributions currently set at two percent of gaming revenue. Money may also be paid into the Fund as a community benefit payment or gaming machine lease levy under the Gaming Machines Act.
Statutory Objects
Cricket NSW hits gambling advertising for six 22nd October 2020 A two-year partnership between Cricket NSW and the NSW Office of Responsible Gambling has been launched today, allowing cricket fans to enjoy their sport free of gambling advertising.
L&GNSW, together with the Independent Liquor & Gaming Authority (ILGA), is responsible for maintaining and administering systems for the licensing, supervision, and control of a casino to:

- ensure that the management and operation of the casino remains free from criminal influence or exploitation
- ensure that gaming in the casino is conducted honestly
- contain and control the potential of a casino to cause harm to the public interest and to individuals and families.
Functions
As part of the administration of casinos in NSW, L&GNSW and ILGA are responsible for:
- oversight of casino operations, including overt and covert operations to ensure compliance with gambling harm minimisation requirements
- approval and licensing of relevant casino staff
- approve the games to be played in a casino and the rules under which such games are played
- approve gaming equipment for use in a casino
- approve the operating times of a casino.

Nsw Gambling Legislation News
Liquor & Gaming NSW is responsible for the implementation of government policies designed to balance sustainable business development with the need to reduce harms associated with problem gambling.
In the gaming area, L&GNSW is responsible for:
- advising in relation to the development and implementation of government policy
- ensuring compliance
- monitoring revenue collected from gaming activity
- overseeing technical standards for gaming machines
The Office of Responsible Gambling and Responsible Gambling Fund Trust is responsible for administering the Responsible Gambling Fund, which funds services for problem gamblers.
Wagering law
Wagering is regulated in NSW under the Betting and Racing Act 1998 and the Totalizator Act 1997, which prescribe:
- who may offer betting services
- the events on which betting is permitted
- requirements that betting service providers must comply with.
Nsw Gambling Legislation 2018
The Act provides that the Minister for Better Regulation and Innovation may authorise licensed bookmakers to conduct telephone and electronic betting at licensed racecourses or other approved premises.
The Minister for Better Regulation and Innovation can declare sports and other events as betting events in NSW. Declared events are listed in the: Schedule of Declared Betting Events and Approved Forms of Betting PDF, 274.62 KB.
